The rebuilding of Iethvekar School - Vanuatu

In 2009 Emma McNelley traveled to Santo, Vanuatu on a scuba diving trip. Whilst there, Emma, a passionate teacher, noticed the need for educational resources and infrastructure at some of the schools that were located in the more remote areas of the island. Emma's goal was to assist the local people to build a school in one of these more remote areas.

Emma worked directly with the Vanuatu Department of Education to establish a site and then returned back to Australia to raise the $20,000 needed to build the Iethvekar Primary School.

Emma employed local builders, held meetings with the community to sign up local volunteers, used materials from the local saw mill and community and employed a local project manager to oversee the entire operation. With community support, the school was built within a four month time frame, with the opening ceremony taking place in November 2013.

The aim of the project was to provide members of the three surrounding communities access to a rich a meaningful education for their children. As a result of the project, three remote communities are now able to send their children to school and provide them with the lifelong gift of education.

Now, post the hurricane in 2015 they are in need of help more than ever. We at Buy Undies, GIve Undies hope to help.
